DESCRIPTION:On offer for your pleasure courtesy of Steve Wolton\, with the promise of a splendid late Summers day ride through the Sussex and Kent countryside\, for this popular weekday jolly. Riding through our green and pleasant countryside to the coast to enjoy that Great British bikers favourite lunch.\nIf you would like to join the ride\, then please follow the registration guide below. \n\nRIDE DETAILS \nThursday September 12th:\n10:00am meet with a 10:15 pre-ride brief for 10:30am wheels rolling and returning to Maresfield services around 16:00. \nMeeting Point Location:  McDonalds\, A22/A26 Services Maresfield\, Uckfield TN22 5EP. \nClosest Petrol Station(s):  Adjacent services \nPre-ride coffee/tea ?  If you want a McDs breakfast or tea/coffee and to be ready for wheels rolling\, get there with enough time to enjoy it and do leave enough for your lunch. \nLunch stop:  The Waterfront Chippy\, Sovereign Harbour\, Eastbourne\, BN23 5UZ (other food options are available!) \nRide Description \nTodays ride will be approx 120 miles through the fantastic Weald of Kent & Sussex.  Heading initially in an easterly direction to Tenterden\, Appledore & Rye and then winding our way back along the South Coast and through part of the South Downs National Park to finish back at our original start point by approx 4:30pm.  We will make a brief stop after about 80 miles for a leg stretch and toilets for those who need it\, before heading to our lunch stop in Sovereign Harbour\, Eastbourne.  Here you will find an excellent fish & chip shop as well as a wide range of other eateries and all the usual sights and sounds of a busy marina. \nOur route will include plenty of “old favourites” and possibly a few new one’s\, on a mixture of A & B roads and some carefully selected single-track routes to help us stay out of the traffic – and we won’t be passing through Lewes this time! \n\nPlease bring your Membership Card with you and ensure you check the club website for any last minute amendments to this event –> Southern Riders Events \n** New and Recent members\, remember please you will need to have had your Initial Assessment Ride with an Instructor to attend this and other club riding activities \n\nREGISTRATION:\nPlease note\, there are no restrictions on how many can join the ride\, but we ask that you please register via email directly with the ride leader at steveandjackywolton@gmail.com \n\nBack-Marker System\nOne of the riders will need to Back-Mark so any volunteer for this please advise the ride leader when you register for the ride.  If you have an orange Hi-Viz please bring it with you\, or one may be provided on the day\, or dependant on the size of the group an alternative marker may be agreed.\nPlease make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACK-MARKER SYSTEM“.  Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day and reduces the risk of losing someone or everyone. SUMMARY:July EOM Ride Out
DESCRIPTION:A longish EOM ride this month of around 220 miles with our ACI for Sussex – Andy Palmer.  To quote Andy – “I don’t feel I’ve had a ride unless I’ve done at least 150 miles!” \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nMeeting point: at Costa/Shell Billingshurst on the A29\, 07:45 ish for an 08:15 briefing and then departure. Shell petrol adjacent.  Costa Coffee\, Stane St\, Billingshurst RH14 9LY \nRoute detail:\nA flowing ride along the A272 to the west of Petersfield where we will leave the A272 and take in some unclassified roads (away from the average speed cameras). DESCRIPTION:For your enjoyment we have a scenic ride through some of the best roads and countryside that Sussex and Hampshire have to offer\, courtesy of Clare Thurgar.  Mainly on minor roads\, B roads and smaller A roads.  Approx 150 mi. \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nSunday April 28th at 9:45am for a pre-ride briefing\, and a departure at 10:00am.  Finishing (at a different location) at approx 16:30. \nMeeting Point Location:  Tulleys Farm\, Turners Hill Rd\, Crawley RH10 4PE \nClosest Petrol Station:  Texaco on B2036. 4 miles north of Tulleys farm. \nPre-ride coffee/tea: Available at the cafe at Tulleys.  Please arrive early enough to have any pre-ride refreshments in plenty of time before the pre-ride briefing. \nLunch stop: Comfort stop at Midhurst (note that this is a ten minute turn-around)\, with a possible refuel at Alton – 64 miles from start.  Lunch planned at The Departure Lounge – Alton\, Basingstoke road – GU34 4BH at approx 12:30. \nRide Description \nWe start our journey through the back roads of Sussex\, riding to Midhurst\, taking in some fabulous stretches of road.\nAt Midhurst we will have a brief pitstop. From here we cut across minor roads to Liss and on up to Alton.  At Alton we can re-fuel and stop for lunch.\nAfter lunch we will continue our journey northwards missing the worst of the speed restrictions before sweeping down to New Alresford.  We continue our journey south through some of the best that Hampshire has to offer in terms of roads and views\, before heading east towards Petersfield.  From Petersfield we will cut down towards Chichester to pick up the B2141. SUMMARY:2022 End of Year and 2023 New Year - Ride Out
DESCRIPTION:On offer for your pleasure courtesy of Johan Pieterse and Simon Lucas a jaunty ride into Essex to ride the New Year in. \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nThis months ride is crossing into Essex that place on that other side of the Thames\, twice in six months\, heading toward New Year hotspot of Southend. \nthe Dartford Crossing\, there is an optional pickup point at Dartford M25(A282)/A296 junction. \nMonday 2nd January   \nMeeting Point Location: \nStart Point 09:30am: McDs\, Princes Road\, Dartford DA1 1YT – map link  9:30am for briefing at 9:45am and departing at 10am. \nPre-Ride Coffee/Tea : If you would like a drink and chat then arrive early.\nClosest Petrol Station: Adjacent to McDonalds\nLunch Point: A mystery for the day \nRoute:  \nStart at the Blue Star Services at Dartford. Then across the river winding through the Essex countryside covering 70’ish miles to our lunch stop. In total the day will be circa 140-160 miles.  Overall routing will be weather dependant. \n  \n\n** New and Recent members – remember please you will need to have had your Initial Assessment Ride with an Instructor to attend this and any other club riding activities \n** All members please carry your membership card on this and all club activities \n\nREGISTRATION \nThere are no restrictions on how many can join the ride\, but we ask that you please register by emailing the ride leader.  See details below. \n\nWeather\nAs with all Group Ride Outs\, please note that if the overnight temperature is forecast to be below 3C degrees at the ride start point\, the ride out will be cancelled automatically.   There will not normally be a second notification if this is the case. \nBack-Marker System\nOne of the riders will need to Back-Mark so any volunteer for this please advise the ride leader when you register for the ride.  If you have an orange Hi-Viz please bring it with you\, or one may be provided on the day\, or dependant on the size of the group an alternative marker may be agreed. \nPlease make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACK-MARKER SYSTEM“.  Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day and reduces the risk of losing someone or everyone. Details of the BM system are on our Southernriders.org  website.   If you’re unsure on the day\, ask one of the attending Ride Leader. They will be more than happy to clarify any issues you have. \nHi-Viz\nIf you wear hi-viz\, please ensure it is not Orange as this is reserved for the ‘back-marker’ during our ride-outs.  We appreciate you may normally wear an orange hi-viz whilst riding. However\, some find it confusing when in the middle of the group to see two or more riders with the orange hi-viz.  So\, in an effort to avoid confusion and markers leaving their post prematurely ONLY the back-marker is to wear orange hi-viz.   Thank you \n\n  \n
