DESCRIPTION:On offer for your pleasure courtesy of Johan Pieterse and Simon Lucas a jaunty ride into Essex to ride the New Year in. \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nThis months ride is crossing into Essex that place on that other side of the Thames\, twice in six months\, heading toward New Year hotspot of Southend. \nthe Dartford Crossing\, there is an optional pickup point at Dartford M25(A282)/A296 junction. \nMonday 2nd January   \nMeeting Point Location: \nStart Point 09:30am: McDs\, Princes Road\, Dartford DA1 1YT – map link  9:30am for briefing at 9:45am and departing at 10am. \nPre-Ride Coffee/Tea : If you would like a drink and chat then arrive early.\nClosest Petrol Station: Adjacent to McDonalds\nLunch Point: A mystery for the day \nRoute:  \nStart at the Blue Star Services at Dartford. Then across the river winding through the Essex countryside covering 70’ish miles to our lunch stop. In total the day will be circa 140-160 miles.  Overall routing will be weather dependant. \n  \n\n** New and Recent members – remember please you will need to have had your Initial Assessment Ride with an Instructor to attend this and any other club riding activities \n** All members please carry your membership card on this and all club activities \n\nREGISTRATION \nThere are no restrictions on how many can join the ride\, but we ask that you please register by emailing the ride leader.  See details below. \n\nWeather\nAs with all Group Ride Outs\, please note that if the overnight temperature is forecast to be below 3C degrees at the ride start point\, the ride out will be cancelled automatically.   There will not normally be a second notification if this is the case. \nBack-Marker System\nOne of the riders will need to Back-Mark so any volunteer for this please advise the ride leader when you register for the ride.  If you have an orange Hi-Viz please bring it with you\, or one may be provided on the day\, or dependant on the size of the group an alternative marker may be agreed. \nPlease make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACK-MARKER SYSTEM“.  Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day and reduces the risk of losing someone or everyone. You’ll learn the details of the renowned Police System to ensure that you always have the breathing space to tackle the hazards every biker faces. The System was developed to reduce Police rider accidents in pursuit riding situations; before the System\, the accident rate of police drivers and riders was one every 7\,000 miles. Since the introduction of “the System” that dropped to one every 70\,000 miles. \nMotorways\, Bends and Positioning – applying the system of motorcycle control.\nHow safely are you keeping away from likely hazards? How far ahead can you spot what’s going on? Positioning directly affects both. In week 1\, you’ll learn how to use your positioning to be more stable when cornering\, ride safer and see further ahead. You will also learn about ‘observation links’ and other tricks of the trade. Ever had a close shave or felt rushed? Do you miss safe overtaking opportunities?\nIn this week 2 session\, you’ll learn the overtaking techniques used by expert road riders to boost safety and skill. You will also learn our top tips for safe and sound filtering. SUMMARY:Isle of Man Wizz : 2023 [fully booked]
DESCRIPTION:Our first Wizz for 2023 and we kick it off in style with a visit to the Isle of Man. \nThis is open to all the membership and will be a five (5) day trip;  three (3) on the island with a day either side to travel up and back home.  Overall\, you can expect to be covering around 1300-1500 miles\, planned and organised into manageable stages in true SMART tradition. As usual we avoid the annual TT dates to miss the crowds and enjoy the amazing quiet roads and beauty of the isle. \nWe shall of course\, ride the infamous TT circuit\, at least once which is over 37 miles of superbly prepared and maintained road through every type of environment imaginable and guaranteed variety of weather conditions and temperatures all in one circuit. The Island is not just about the TT Circuit\, so we shall be using the wide variety of roads the island offers\, especially those less seen and used with all the majestic scenery the island offers.  There are some classic bike museums on the island and so we plan to be visiting at least one of these during the trip too. \n\nAccommodation as previous years\, will be with the Arrandale hotel in Douglas\, with restaurants and bars within a short walk for our evening meals.\nHotel costs are £45 ppn for Twin Sharing and £70 ppn for a Single.  Board will be B&B.  As far as rooms are concerned\, we shall endeavour to meet your room preference\, but availability may mean compromises.  The 2023 Ferry prices are currently showing £125 return departing from Liverpool and with a return to either Liverpool or Heysham. \nDates are April 30 – May 4th\, 2023 with 15 places for riders. \n\nImportant:\nWhilst our Wizzes are open to all; we do have some safety criteria that you must meet.  So before you come forward and to avoid disappointment please read our Prepare for a Wizz and ensure you are comfortable with the advice and that you meet the criteria. If in any doubt then discuss with your Instructor or me. \n  \nIf you would like more information or wish to reserve your place and join us then please contact Andrew Jupp – atwjupp@yahoo.com clearly stating your room preference.

DESCRIPTION:SMART’s annul slow riding and skills handling day is back\, and again we are at The Hawth in Crawley. DESCRIPTION:RIDE DETAILS \nThursday 6th JULY 1:30pm meet for 1:45pm pre-ride briefing and 2pm start and Return anticipated approx 7:30pm.\nArrive earlier if you want a lunch chat\, tea or coffee etc. \nMeeting Point Location: The Butcher’s Hook Cafe\, Burwash Rd\, Heathfield TN21 8RA. \nClosest Petrol Station(s):  ESSO\, Mayfield Road (A267)\, Cross in Hand [2 miles from The Butchers’ Hook]\nPre-ride coffee/tea ?   Butchers Hook Cafe. \nMeal stop:  The Custom Cafe\, Barnhorn Road (A259)\, Bexhill-on-Sea TN39 4QR. \nRide Description:\nThe ride will be of approx 85 miles\, mostly within East Sussex and mainly on lovely country roads with a tea stop and leg stretch at the Coastguard Cafe in Fairlight.  We will aim to arrive at the Custom Cafe by about 5:30pm\, where there will be the usual daily menu plus a BBQ in the garden.  If we are lucky there may be some music.\nDepending on the amount of sunshine and music available we will stay for about an hour or so.\nThere are petrol stations en-route but I am not planning to stop\, please arrive ready fuelled with at least 120 miles of range.\nRemember if you need to stop enroute\, flag another rider in the group down to mark your position before you get fuel. \nReturn to: \nMore direct route back to the start point of approx 40 minutes for those who require it arriving\, Heathfield approx 7- 7:30pm \n\n** New and Recent members – remember please you will need to have had your Initial Assessment Ride with an Instructor to attend this and any other club riding activities \n** All members please carry your membership card on this and all club activities \n\nREGISTRATION \nThere are no restrictions on how many can join the ride\, but we ask that you please register by emailing the ride leader.  See details below. \n\nBack-Marker System\nOne of the riders will need to Back-Mark so any volunteer for this please advise the ride leader when you register for the ride.  If you have an orange Hi-Viz please bring it with you\, or one may be provided on the day\, or dependant on the size of the group an alternative marker may be agreed. \nPlease make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACK-MARKER SYSTEM“.  Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day and reduces the risk of losing someone or everyone. DESCRIPTION:This is a tour/wizz that has become such a group favourite that we currently do it twice a year! Broadly speaking\, for 2023 we will repeat the previous successful format\, travelling to Wales on a Monday and returning on a Thursday\, with two full days exploring some of the very best roads in the UK. We deliberately choose to avoid school holidays and weekends\, so we don’t have to share with too many caravans or other traffic.  Overall we’re talking of around 1200 miles planned and organised into manageable stages. \nFor 2023 we are proposing 10-13 July and 11-14 September. \nThis event is open to all our group members\, and we do encourage Tour/Wizz newbies.  But please be aware that the overall mileage\, duration\, road conditions and weather combine to make this a challenging trip… ie: tiring but fun.. and very rewarding!  Please read the notes below and check with your instructor if you are in doubt as to the suitability of the trip. \nWe will be based in Mid West Wales\, and expect to be accommodated in the Hampton Hotel in the town of Llandindrod Wells\, as previous years. \nThe inclusive price has yet to be confirmed but will likely range from around £150 sharing to £200 single (dependant on room type) for three night’s bed\, breakfast and evening meal.  Please note that single rooms will be in short supply.  We shall be limiting Wizz numbers to a manageable maximum of 30 riders\, and if previous trips are anything to go by\, demand will greatly outstrip supply\, and spaces may have to be allocated as fairly as we can.  Pillions are welcome. \nImportant:\nWhilst our Tours/Wizzes are open to all; we do have some safety criteria that you must meet.  So before you come forward and to avoid disappointment please read our Prepare for a Tour/Wizz and ensure you are comfortable with the advice and that you meet the criteria.\nIf in any doubt then discuss with your Instructor\, Roger or myself. \n  \nIf you would like to book a place\, or have questions\, please email me on timbenians@gmail.com. \nI will once again be aided and abetted by my two Welsh Politburo co-conspirators Roger Manning and Hugh Curran. \nIn the first instance\, please let me know the dates you want to book for\, and your sharing/single room preference. \nThanks\, Tim
