SUMMARY:France Tour (FULLY BOOKED)
DESCRIPTION:Commencing in the South of France in an area near to Valence. From here there will be daily rides of approx 250 miles taking in some stunning scenery and roads. \nI am going to book the hotel for the group and will be asking for non refundable deposits from all that are going. \nAll of the dates and times will be published and I will ask everyone to make their own way to France\, we will probably meet at Folkstone or Calais.  The plan is to ride halfway there and find your own hotel / B+ B en-route for the Saturday evening\, 26th. Making your way to the main hotel by the Sunday evening\, 27th. That’s when the tour officially starts. \nOn the return journey the same applies. We leave the hotel on the Friday morning and ride a distance towards Calais to get the Euro-tunnel. Staying over on the Friday night and getting to Calais during the Saturday to make your way home. \n  \n*IMPORTANT* \nWhilst our Tours / Wizzes are open to all; we do have some safety criteria that you must meet.  So before you come forward and to avoid disappointment please read our Prepare for a Tour and ensure you are comfortable with the advice and that you do or will meet the criteria.\nIf in any doubt then discuss with the Tour/Wizz organiser.

DESCRIPTION:On offer for your pleasure courtesy of our very own Kent Area Chief Instructor\, Paul Ingleton\, is a lovely ride through Kent and Sussex down to the coast fo lunch. \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nSunday April 27th.  Meet at McDonalds in East Grinstead for an 08:45 briefing\, and departure at 09:00am.\nMeeting Point Location:  McDonalds in East Grinstead (RH19 1ET) \nClosest Petrol Station:  Jet next door\, or Esso in the one way system \nPre-ride coffee/tea: At McDonalds\, arrive early if needed. \nLunch stop: The Pilot Inn at Dungeness \nRide Description \nA lovely ride through the Sussex and Kent countryside (A roads and B roads)\, with a petrol stop at Brenzett) prior to lunch down on the coast at The Pilot\, Dungeness.  The return will be through Kent to Mickeys Diner (north of Maidstone).  The ride should finish around 3pm. \n  \n\n** New and Recent members – remember please you will need to have had your Initial Assessment Ride with an Instructor to attend this and any other club riding activities \n** All members please carry your membership card on this and all club activities \n\nREGISTRATION \nThere are no restrictions on how many can join the ride\, but we ask that you please register by emailing the ride leader.  See details below. \n\nWeather\nAs with all Group Ride Outs\, please note that if the overnight temperature is forecast to be 3C degrees or below at the ride start meeting place\, the ride out will be cancelled automatically.   There will not normally be a second notification if this is the case.  We only use the BBC Weather for our information.\n  \nBack-Marker System\nOne of the riders will need to Back-Mark so any volunteer for this please advise the ride leader when you register for the ride.  If you have an orange Hi-Viz please bring it with you\, or one may be provided on the day\, or dependant on the size of the group an alternative marker may be agreed. \nPlease make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACK-MARKER SYSTEM“.  Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day and reduces the risk of losing someone or everyone. SUMMARY:Northern Borders Tour/Wizz 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Northern Tour (Wizz)\, from 1st – 6th June 2024 inclusive\, assuming a day travelling each way.   This will give us 4 full days riding in the North of England\, comprising a day in each of the following areas: \n\nYorkshire Dale/Moors\nThe Eastern Scottish Borders and Lammermuir Hills\nDumfries and Galloway\nThe Lake District.\n\nCosts are expected to be around £80 per room per night ( x 5 nights = £400) for single occupancy B&B\, but are to be confirmed.  An extra charge for twin/double occupation of a room will apply but can be shared.  We provisionally have 11 rooms (double and twin) with the option of a few more\, if we are quick and there is sufficient interest. \nWe will require a £100 deposit to secure your place and this will be required late Jan / early Feb. \nPlease register by emailing your interest to aspalm600@gmail.com – and providing some basic information\, including: \n\nPreferred room type [Single occupancy\, Shared occupancy (twin beds)\, Shared occupancy (double bed)\, Single preferred but willing to share (twin beds)]\nBike make / model / range\n\nFull details of the tour will be provided later to those confirmed. \nIf interest is in excess of room availability then a reserve list will be created.

SUMMARY:Wales Tour/Wizz - July 2025
DESCRIPTION:This is a tour/wizz that has become such a group favourite that we currently do it twice a year! Broadly speaking\, for 2025 we will repeat the previous successful format\, travelling to Wales on a Monday and returning on a Thursday\, with two full days exploring some of the very best roads in the UK. DESCRIPTION:A joyous Summers days ride with Adam Shand with a rare treat to explore the Garden of England! \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nSunday August 31st – meeting at 09:00 for a 09:20 briefing and 09:30 start.  Return anticipated around 15:30-16:00 \nMeeting Point Location:  Cafe Anatolia\, 2 Brookfield Road\, Ashford\, TN23 4ES \nClosest Petrol Station:  Shell\, next to Cafe \nPre-ride coffee/tea:  At start location (open from 09:00) \nLunch stop: The Airport Cafe \nRide Description \nA ride through The Kent countryside from Ashford\, flirting with the East Sussex border as we arrive at the coast for our first stop. We then take some more challenging and twisty roads through the Romney Marshes\, passing through farmland linked by old\, beautiful Hamlets\, heading towards one of my favourite lunch stops at The Airport Cafe. We then take some varied roads\, exploring parts of the Kent downs before arriving at the coast once again at our main stop\, The Battle Of Britain Memorial. This is a truly humbling location that offers a spectacular view of the English channel and an alternative perspective. They also have expert guides on site to talk to\, a nice cafe and gift shop. This is where the route can end\, allowing people to spend as long or little time here as they like\, it’s also odirectly linked to the M20 or A2 for easy access to motorways. Most however take two days up and two days back home. \nPlease note that\, for the trips up and back the rider remains responsible for sourcing their own accommodation. \nOverall\, you can expect to be covering around 2500-2700 miles including travel from the Sussex/Surrey area\, planned and organised into manageable stages in true SMART tradition. \nWhilst we do ride on parts of the NC500 route\, we also discover the quieter and most spectacular roads around the Highlands as well as taking a trip to the Isle of Skye. \nThis trip is all about the riding and the amazing roads and scenery. The roads are grippy and retain most of that grip even should the worst happen and we suffer some rain ! \nStops will include the infamous John O’Groats\, various stunning stops along the north and west coasts and at least one stop on the Isle of Skye. \nAccommodation will be in Beauly\, near Inverness at The Priory Hotel\, on a dinner\, bed and breakfast basis\, so the only extras will be coffee and cake stops\, and also lunch stops once you have arrived. Oh and of course a beer in the evening! \nThe prices are as follows:\n£135 per person per night for single occupancy in a Double or Twin Room\n£105 per person per night sharing a Double or Twin Room \n  \nDates are expected to be September 24th – September 28th\, 2025 with 12 rooms already pre-booked. So if you want to bring a partner as pillion\, or of course on their own wheels\, get in there whilst the double rooms are available. DESCRIPTION:On offer for your pleasure courtesy of one of our newer instructors – Paul Matchett is a lovely ride through Sussex and Hampshire. \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nSunday September 28th – Meet at 08:00 (or before for coffee);  Pre-ride briefing at 08:15;  Wheels up at 08:30.  Return anticipated (different location) around 15:30 \nMeeting Point Location:  Pease Pottage Services\, M23 Junction\, 11 Brighton Rd\, Crawley RH11 9YA \nClosest Petrol Station:  At the start point \nPre-ride coffee/tea:  At the start point \nLunch stop: Army Flying Museum \nRide Description \nConsisting of a mix of A\, B and minor roads for a total of 160 miles.\nOutward Route:\nWe start our journey through the A & B roads of Sussex\, heading towards Chichester and then on towards Havant\, where we’ll stop at Shell Services\, (Durrants Rd\, Rowlands Castle\, Havant PO9 6BB) for a quick coffee/comfort/fuel break. We then head west on a mixture of roads before looping round to the south of Winchester and up to the Army Flying Museum. Total distance 100 miles\nReturn Route: After lunch we head a more direct route back eventually finishing at Billingshurst Services\, Unit 2\, Business Park\, New Rd\, Billingshurst RH14 9LY. Total distance 60 miles \n  \n\n** New and Recent members – remember please you will need to have had your Initial Assessment Ride with an Instructor to attend this and any other club riding activities \n** All members please carry your membership card on this and all club activities \n\nREGISTRATION \nThere are no restrictions on how many can join the ride\, but we ask that you please register by emailing the ride leader.  See details below. \n\nWeather\nAs with all Group Ride Outs\, please note that if the overnight temperature is forecast to be 3C degrees or below at the ride start meeting place\, the ride out will be cancelled automatically.   There will not normally be a second notification if this is the case.  We only use the BBC Weather for our information.\n  \nBack-Marker System\nOne of the riders will need to Back-Mark so any volunteer for this please advise the ride leader when you register for the ride.  If you have an orange Hi-Viz please bring it with you\, or one may be provided on the day\, or dependant on the size of the group an alternative marker may be agreed. \nPlease make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACK-MARKER SYSTEM“.  Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day and reduces the risk of losing someone or everyone. Details of the BM system are on our Southernriders.org  website.   If you’re unsure on the day\, ask one of the attending Ride Leader. They will be more than happy to clarify any issues you have. \nHi-Viz\nIf you wear hi-viz\, please ensure it is not Orange as this is reserved for the ‘back-marker’ during our ride-outs.  We appreciate you may normally wear an orange hi-viz whilst riding. However\, some find it confusing when in the middle of the group to see two or more riders with the orange hi-viz.  So\, in an effort to avoid confusion and markers leaving their post prematurely ONLY the back-marker is to wear orange hi-viz.   Thank you

DESCRIPTION:SMART’s Annual General Meeting \nVenue: The Haven Centre  Sunday 19th October\, 9:30 for 10am to approx 1pm\nTea and Coffee on arrival. \nREGISTER Attendance:  Please email committee@southernriders.org \nPlease join us to understand more about how Your club is organised and run.\nAll associates are welcome\, however whilst we now no longer have any restrictions on numbers attending\, your registration is required so we can ensure we have the correct catering. \nThe AGM provides You the opportunity to understand what has occurred during the past year as well as to air ideas on how the club can be improved and importantly to participate in the Election of club officers which is a key part of the agenda.  For point of note\, our constitution states that committee members (except the GCI) hold office for one year and are re-elected or replaced in the AGM. \nIf you are interested in taking up one of these positions\, then please email the position of interest to secretary@southernriders.org where you will be added to the list of candidates standing and we ask that you also please attend the AGM.  All candidate nominees must be received by the 30th September. \n
