DESCRIPTION:This months ride has been cancelled due to low overnight temperature.\n  \nOn offer for your pleasure courtesy of our Kent Area Chief Instructor\, Paul Ingleton\, is a jaunty ride through Sussex and Kent down to the coast at Dungeness. \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nSunday February 25th for a pre-ride briefing at 9:00am to leave at 9:15am.  Ending at approximately 3:30pm. \nMeeting Point Location:  McDonald’s\, East Grinstead\, RH19 1ET \nClosest Petrol Station:  Next to start point \nPre-ride coffee/tea: Coffee/tea/breakfast available at start point\, arrive early enough to leave on time   \nLunch stop: The Pilot Inn at Dungeness\, TN29 9NJ \nRide Description \nJourney through the back roads of Sussex and Kent to Dungeness for lunch\, and then to Mickey’s Diner for mid afternoon.\nNo coffee stop planned in the morning\, but possible\, depending on timing\, in the afternoon.\nRoute after lunch different\, and ride end is different to start point (see below) \nOutward Route: East Grinstead to Dungeness \nReturn Route: Dungeness to Mickey’s Diner\, Blue Bell Hill\, Ayelsford\, ME20 7EZ \n\n** New and Recent members – remember please you will need to have had your Initial Assessment Ride with an Instructor to attend this and any other club riding activities \n** All members please carry your membership card on this and all club activities \n\nREGISTRATION \nThere are no restrictions on how many can join the ride\, but we ask that you please register by emailing the ride leader.  See details below. \n\nWeather\nAs with all Group Ride Outs\, please note that if the overnight temperature is forecast to be below 3C degrees at the ride start point\, the ride out will be cancelled automatically.   There will not normally be a second notification if this is the case. \nBack-Marker System\nOne of the riders will need to Back-Mark so any volunteer for this please advise the ride leader when you register for the ride.  If you have an orange Hi-Viz please bring it with you\, or one may be provided on the day\, or dependant on the size of the group an alternative marker may be agreed. \nPlease make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACK-MARKER SYSTEM“.  Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day and reduces the risk of losing someone or everyone. DESCRIPTION:On offer for your pleasure courtesy of our Treasurer Jonathan Baker\, is a multi-county extravaganza up to Silverstone. \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS\nSunday March 31\, at 9:45am for a pre-ride briefing – Start: 10:00am.  Return anticipated around 15:00 – for those who return with JB (see below).  If you want a coffee / tea ahead of the briefing – please arrive earlier (9:15am suggested) \nMeeting Point Location:  The Starbuck Drive-Thru Car Park\, Beaconsfield Services off Junction 2 of the M40 \nClosest Petrol Station:  The Shell station in the Services.  For those not wishing to pay motorway service prices – there is an Esso about a mile away (Wycombe End\, Beaconsfield\, HP9 1XA) \nPre-ride coffee/tea: Starbucks !  (Duh !!)   Also – Services has plenty of options. \nLunch stop: Silverstone Museum Cafe – NN12 8TN \nRide Description: \nA total of 5 counties can be touched on this 80’ish mile route through the countryside on mostly B roads but with a couple of A roads and the odd single track to keep the Adventure Bike owners happy.\nWe will travel through: Bucks\, Oxon\, Northamptonshire with a touch of Warwickshire and Hertfordshire.\nLunch will be at the Silverstone Museum Cafe where riders can either stay\, visit the museum and then return home using the A43 and the motorway of their choice or return with me back to Beaconsfield Services via a similar type but different 80 ish mile route also featuring mostly B roads but rising past the front gate of Chequers.\nTotal distance about 160 miles.\nRide time: 2.5 hours each way approximately. \nOutward Route/ Return Route:  as above \n\n** New and Recent members – remember please you will need to have had your Initial Assessment Ride with an Instructor to attend this and any other club riding activities \n** All members please carry your membership card on this and all club activities \n\nREGISTRATION \nThere are no restrictions on how many can join the ride\, but we ask that you please register by emailing the ride leader.  See details below. \n\nWeather \nAs with all Group Ride Outs\, please note that if the overnight temperature is forecast to be below 3C degrees at the ride start point\, the ride out will be cancelled automatically.   There will not normally be a second notification if this is the case. SUMMARY:Isle of Man Tour/Wizz 2024
DESCRIPTION:Our first Wizz for 2024 and as usual we kick it off in style with a visit to the mighty Isle of Man. \nThis is open to all the membership and will be a five (5) day trip;  three (3) on the island with a day either side to travel up and back home.  Overall\, you can expect to be covering around 1300-1500 miles\, planned and organised into manageable stages in true SMART tradition. As usual we avoid the annual TT dates to miss the crowds and enjoy the amazing quiet roads and beauty of the isle. \nWe shall of course\, ride the infamous TT circuit\, at least once which is over 37 miles of superbly prepared and maintained road through every type of environment imaginable and guaranteed variety of weather conditions and temperatures all in one circuit. The Island is not just about the TT Circuit\, so we shall mostly be using the wide variety of roads the island offers\, especially those less seen and used with all the majestic scenery the island offers. \nThere are some classic bike museums on the island and so we plan to be visiting at least one of these during the trip too. \n\nAccommodation as previous years\, will be with the Arrandale hotel in Douglas\, with restaurants and bars within a short walk for our evening meals.\nHotel costs have been held at 2023 prices £45 ppn for Twin Sharing and £70 pn for a Single.  Board will be B&B.  As far as rooms are concerned\, we shall endeavour to meet your room preference\, but availability may mean compromises.  The 2024 Ferry prices are currently unpublished\, but anticipate they will be circa £130 return per bike.  We shall be departing from Liverpool and the return will be to either Liverpool or Heysham. DESCRIPTION:For your enjoyment we have a scenic ride through some of the best roads and countryside that Sussex and Hampshire have to offer\, courtesy of Clare Thurgar.  Mainly on minor roads\, B roads and smaller A roads.  Approx 150 mi. \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nSunday April 28th at 9:45am for a pre-ride briefing\, and a departure at 10:00am.  Finishing (at a different location) at approx 16:30. \nMeeting Point Location:  Tulleys Farm\, Turners Hill Rd\, Crawley RH10 4PE \nClosest Petrol Station:  Texaco on B2036. 4 miles north of Tulleys farm. \nPre-ride coffee/tea: Available at the cafe at Tulleys.  Please arrive early enough to have any pre-ride refreshments in plenty of time before the pre-ride briefing. \nLunch stop: Comfort stop at Midhurst (note that this is a ten minute turn-around)\, with a possible refuel at Alton – 64 miles from start.  Lunch planned at The Departure Lounge – Alton\, Basingstoke road – GU34 4BH at approx 12:30. \nRide Description \nWe start our journey through the back roads of Sussex\, riding to Midhurst\, taking in some fabulous stretches of road.\nAt Midhurst we will have a brief pitstop. From here we cut across minor roads to Liss and on up to Alton.  At Alton we can re-fuel and stop for lunch.\nAfter lunch we will continue our journey northwards missing the worst of the speed restrictions before sweeping down to New Alresford.  We continue our journey south through some of the best that Hampshire has to offer in terms of roads and views\, before heading east towards Petersfield.  From Petersfield we will cut down towards Chichester to pick up the B2141. SUMMARY:Northern Borders Tour/Wizz 2024
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the first of\, hopefully\, an annual Northern Tour (Wizz)\, from 2nd – 7th June 2024 inclusive\, assuming a day travelling each way.   This will give us 4 full days riding in the North of England\, comprising a day in each of the following areas: \n\nYorkshire Dale/Moors\nThe Eastern Scottish Borders and Lammermuir Hills\nDumfries and Galloway\nThe Lake District.\n\nCosts are expected to be around £80 per room per night ( x 5 nights = £400) for single occupancy B&B\, an extra charge for twin/double occupation of a room will apply but can be shared.  We provisionally have 11 rooms (double and twin) with the option of a few more\, if we are quick and there is sufficient interest. \nWe will require a £100 deposit to secure your place and this will be required late Jan / early Feb. \nPlease register by emailing your interest to aspalm600@gmail.com – and providing some basic information\, including: \n\nPreferred room type [Single occupancy\, Shared occupancy (twin beds)\, Shared occupancy (double bed)\, Single preferred but willing to share (twin beds)]\nBike make / model / range\n\nFull details of the tour will be provided later to those confirmed. \nIf interest is in excess of room availability then a reserve list will be created.

SUMMARY:Wales Tour/Wizz : July 2024
DESCRIPTION:This is a tour/wizz that has become such a group favourite that we currently do it twice a year! Broadly speaking\, for 2024 we will repeat the previous successful format\, travelling to Wales on a Monday and returning on a Thursday\, with two full days exploring some of the very best roads in the UK. We deliberately choose to avoid school holidays and weekends\, so we don’t have to share with too many caravans or other traffic.  Overall we’re talking of around 1200 miles planned and organised into manageable stages. \nFor 2024 we are proposing July 8-11th and September 16-19th. \nThis event is open to all our group members\, and we do encourage Tour/Wizz newbies.  But please be aware that the overall mileage\, duration\, road conditions and weather combine to make this a challenging trip… ie: tiring but fun.. and very rewarding!  Please read the notes below and check with your instructor if you are in doubt as to the suitability of the trip. \nIMPORTANT: We will be based in Mid West Wales\, with the venue and price currently a work in progress.  Further updates once we have finalised details. \nI will once again be aided and abetted by my two Welsh Politburo co-conspirators Roger Manning and Hugh Curran. \nThe price has yet to be confirmed but we are working to keep it similar to past years circa £160 sharing\, to £200 single (dependant on room type) for three night’s bed\, breakfast and evening meal.  Please note that single rooms will likely be in short supply.  We shall be limiting Tour/Wizz numbers to a manageable maximum of 30 riders\, and if previous trips are anything to go by\, demand will greatly outstrip supply\, and spaces may have to be allocated as fairly as we can.  Pillions are very welcome. \nImportant:\nWhilst our Tours/Wizzes are open to all; we do have some safety criteria that you must meet.  So before you come forward and to avoid disappointment please read our Prepare for a Tour/Wizz and ensure you are comfortable with the advice and that you meet the criteria.\nIf in any doubt then discuss with your Instructor\, Roger or myself. \nIf you would like to reserve a place (to be confirmed once final details are known)\, or have questions\, please email me on timbenians@gmail.com.\nIn the first instance\, please let me know the dates you want to book for\, and your sharing/single room preference. \nThanks\, Tim \n

SUMMARY:July EOM Ride Out
DESCRIPTION:A longish EOM ride this month of around 220 miles with our ACI for Sussex – Andy Palmer.  To quote Andy – “I don’t feel I’ve had a ride unless I’ve done at least 150 miles!” \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nMeeting point: at Costa/Shell Billingshurst on the A29\, 07:45 ish for an 08:15 briefing and then departure. Shell petrol adjacent.  Costa Coffee\, Stane St\, Billingshurst RH14 9LY \nRoute detail:\nA flowing ride along the A272 to the west of Petersfield where we will leave the A272 and take in some unclassified roads (away from the average speed cameras).
