SUMMARY:Wales Tour/Wizz : July 2024
DESCRIPTION:This is a tour/wizz that has become such a group favourite that we currently do it twice a year! Broadly speaking\, for 2024 we will repeat the previous successful format\, travelling to Wales on a Monday and returning on a Thursday\, with two full days exploring some of the very best roads in the UK. We deliberately choose to avoid school holidays and weekends\, so we don’t have to share with too many caravans or other traffic.  Overall we’re talking of around 1200 miles planned and organised into manageable stages. \nFor 2024 we are proposing July 8-11th and September 16-19th. \nThis event is open to all our group members\, and we do encourage Tour/Wizz newbies.  But please be aware that the overall mileage\, duration\, road conditions and weather combine to make this a challenging trip… ie: tiring but fun.. and very rewarding!  Please read the notes below and check with your instructor if you are in doubt as to the suitability of the trip. \nIMPORTANT: We will be based in Mid West Wales\, with the venue and price currently a work in progress.  Further updates once we have finalised details. \nI will once again be aided and abetted by my two Welsh Politburo co-conspirators Roger Manning and Hugh Curran. \nThe price has yet to be confirmed but we are working to keep it similar to past years circa £160 sharing\, to £200 single (dependant on room type) for three night’s bed\, breakfast and evening meal.  Please note that single rooms will likely be in short supply.  We shall be limiting Tour/Wizz numbers to a manageable maximum of 30 riders\, and if previous trips are anything to go by\, demand will greatly outstrip supply\, and spaces may have to be allocated as fairly as we can.  Pillions are very welcome. \nImportant:\nWhilst our Tours/Wizzes are open to all; we do have some safety criteria that you must meet.  So before you come forward and to avoid disappointment please read our Prepare for a Tour/Wizz and ensure you are comfortable with the advice and that you meet the criteria.\nIf in any doubt then discuss with your Instructor\, Roger or myself. \nIf you would like to reserve a place (to be confirmed once final details are known)\, or have questions\, please email me on timbenians@gmail.com.\nIn the first instance\, please let me know the dates you want to book for\, and your sharing/single room preference. \nThanks\, Tim \n

SUMMARY:July EOM Ride Out
DESCRIPTION:A longish EOM ride this month of around 220 miles with our ACI for Sussex – Andy Palmer.  To quote Andy – “I don’t feel I’ve had a ride unless I’ve done at least 150 miles!” \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nMeeting point: at Costa/Shell Billingshurst on the A29\, 07:45 ish for an 08:15 briefing and then departure. Shell petrol adjacent.  Costa Coffee\, Stane St\, Billingshurst RH14 9LY \nRoute detail:\nA flowing ride along the A272 to the west of Petersfield where we will leave the A272 and take in some unclassified roads (away from the average speed cameras). Arriving on the outskirts of Winchester for our morning tea/coffee stop at Cobbs hopefully just as they open at 10:00.  Cobbs of Winchester\, Springvale Rd\, Headbourne Worthy\, Winchester SO23 7LD \nThen it is on to the North Wessex Downs and some lovely brisk and flowing roads towards Marlborough (fuel stop here) and onto our lunch stop for around 12:30. \nLunch stop: still to be confirmed. \nReturn route:\nLeaving lunch around 2pm\, we will head back on another lovely route via HIghclere and Kingsclere and on to a quick splash and dash at:  Loomies\, Alton Road GU32 1JX for around 4pm\, then heading back to the start for 5:30-6pm \n  \n\n** New and Recent members – remember please you will need to have had your Initial Assessment Ride with an Instructor to attend this and any other club riding activities \n** All members please carry your membership card on this and all club activities \n\nREGISTRATION \nThere are no restrictions on how many can join the ride\, but we ask that you please register by emailing the ride leader.  See details below. \n\nWeather\nAs with all Group Ride Outs\, please note that if the overnight temperature is forecast to be below 3C degrees at the ride start point\, the ride out will be cancelled automatically.   There will not normally be a second notification if this is the case. \nBack-Marker System\nOne of the riders will need to Back-Mark so any volunteer for this please advise the ride leader when you register for the ride.  If you have an orange Hi-Viz please bring it with you\, or one may be provided on the day\, or dependant on the size of the group an alternative marker may be agreed. \nPlease make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACK-MARKER SYSTEM“.  Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day and reduces the risk of losing someone or everyone. Details of the BM system are on our Southernriders.org  website.   If you’re unsure on the day\, ask one of the attending Ride Leader. They will be more than happy to clarify any issues you have. \nHi-Viz\nIf you wear hi-viz\, please ensure it is not Orange as this is reserved for the ‘back-marker’ during our ride-outs.  We appreciate you may normally wear an orange hi-viz whilst riding. However\, some find it confusing when in the middle of the group to see two or more riders with the orange hi-viz.  So\, in an effort to avoid confusion and markers leaving their post prematurely ONLY the back-marker is to wear orange hi-viz.   Thank you
