SUMMARY:The Wee Scottish Tour/Wizz 2024
DESCRIPTION:Our Scottish Wizz for 2024 will as usual avoid the school holiday dates to miss the crowds and enjoy the amazing quiet roads and beauty of the Highlands. \nThis is open to all the membership and will be a minimum of a seven (7) day trip;  five (5) in the Highlands with a day either side to travel up and back home. Most however take two days up and two days back home. \nPlease note that\, for the trips up and back the rider remains responsible for sourcing their own accommodation. \nOverall\, you can expect to be covering around 2500-2700 miles including travel from the Sussex/Surrey area\, planned and organised into manageable stages in true SMART tradition. \nWhilst we do ride on parts of the NC500 route\, we also discover the quieter and most spectacular roads around the Highlands as well as taking a trip to the Isle of Skye. \nThis trip is all about the riding and the amazing roads and scenery. The roads are grippy and retain most of that grip even should the worst happen and we suffer some rain ! \nAccommodation will be in Beauly\, near Inverness at The Priory Hotel\, on a dinner\, bed and breakfast basis\, so the only extras will be coffee and cake stops\, and also lunch stops once you have arrived. Oh and of course a beer in the evening! \nPleased we have been able to secure the hotel costs at 2023 prices\, of £120 pppn if in a private room (double or twin). If one wishes to bring a partner and guarantee a double room\, the cost is £100 pppn.  Board will be Dinner\, B&B. This will need to be paid up front\, with a deposit due to confirm your place and the balance due 28 days prior to the trip. \nStops will include the infamous John O’Groats\, various stunning stops along the north and west coasts and at least one stop on the Isle of Skye.. \nDates are expected to be September 1st – September 6th\, 2024 with 12 rooms already pre-booked. So if you want to bring a partner as pillion\, or of course on their own wheels\, get in there whilst the double rooms are available. First come\, first served. \nImportant:\nWhilst our Wizzes are open to all and encourage Wizz newbies; we do have some safety criteria that you must meet. \nSo before you come forward and to avoid disappointment please read our Prepare for a Wizz and ensure you are comfortable with the advice and that you do or will meet the criteria. DESCRIPTION:On offer for your pleasure courtesy of Steve Wolton\, with the promise of a splendid late Summers day ride through the Sussex and Kent countryside\, for this popular weekday jolly. Riding through our green and pleasant countryside to the coast to enjoy that Great British bikers favourite lunch.\nIf you would like to join the ride\, then please follow the registration guide below. \n\nRIDE DETAILS \nThursday September 12th:\n10:00am meet with a 10:15 pre-ride brief for 10:30am wheels rolling and returning to Maresfield services around 16:00. \nMeeting Point Location:  McDonalds\, A22/A26 Services Maresfield\, Uckfield TN22 5EP. \nClosest Petrol Station(s):  Adjacent services \nPre-ride coffee/tea ?  If you want a McDs breakfast or tea/coffee and to be ready for wheels rolling\, get there with enough time to enjoy it and do leave enough for your lunch. \nLunch stop:  The Waterfront Chippy\, Sovereign Harbour\, Eastbourne\, BN23 5UZ (other food options are available!) \nRide Description \nTodays ride will be approx 120 miles through the fantastic Weald of Kent & Sussex.  Heading initially in an easterly direction to Tenterden\, Appledore & Rye and then winding our way back along the South Coast and through part of the South Downs National Park to finish back at our original start point by approx 4:30pm.  We will make a brief stop after about 80 miles for a leg stretch and toilets for those who need it\, before heading to our lunch stop in Sovereign Harbour\, Eastbourne.  Here you will find an excellent fish & chip shop as well as a wide range of other eateries and all the usual sights and sounds of a busy marina. \nOur route will include plenty of “old favourites” and possibly a few new one’s\, on a mixture of A & B roads and some carefully selected single-track routes to help us stay out of the traffic – and we won’t be passing through Lewes this time! \n\nPlease bring your Membership Card with you and ensure you check the club website for any last minute amendments to this event –> Southern Riders Events \n** New and Recent members\, remember please you will need to have had your Initial Assessment Ride with an Instructor to attend this and other club riding activities \n\nREGISTRATION:\nPlease note\, there are no restrictions on how many can join the ride\, but we ask that you please register via email directly with the ride leader at steveandjackywolton@gmail.com \n\nBack-Marker System\nOne of the riders will need to Back-Mark so any volunteer for this please advise the ride leader when you register for the ride.  If you have an orange Hi-Viz please bring it with you\, or one may be provided on the day\, or dependant on the size of the group an alternative marker may be agreed.\nPlease make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACK-MARKER SYSTEM“.  Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day and reduces the risk of losing someone or everyone. Details of the BM system are on our Southernriders.org  website.   If you’re unsure on the day\, ask one of the attending Ride Leader. They will be more than happy to clarify any issues you have. \nHi-Viz \nIf you wear hi-viz\, please ensure it is not Orange as this is reserved for the ‘back-marker’ during our ride-outs.  We appreciate that you may normally wear an orange hi-viz whilst riding.  However\, some find it confusing when in the middle of the group to see two or more riders with the orange hi-viz.  So\, in an effort to avoid confusion and markers leaving their post prematurely ONLY the back-marker is to wear orange hi-viz.   Thank you \n\nPlease be fully fuelled and ready to go prior to the start of the day. \nHave a safe enjoyable day.\nRide Smart – Ride Safe !

SUMMARY:Wales Tour/Wizz : September 2024
DESCRIPTION:This is a tour/wizz that has become such a group favourite that we currently do it twice a year! Broadly speaking\, for 2024 we will repeat the previous successful format\, travelling to Wales on a Monday and returning on a Thursday\, with two full days exploring some of the very best roads in the UK. We deliberately choose to avoid school holidays and weekends\, so we don’t have to share with too many caravans or other traffic.  Overall we’re talking of around 1200 miles planned and organised into manageable stages. \nFor 2024 we are proposing for September 16-19th and July 8-11th. \nThis event is open to all our group members\, and we do encourage Tour/Wizz newbies.  But please be aware that the overall mileage\, duration\, road conditions and weather combine to make this a challenging trip… ie: tiring but fun.. and very rewarding!  Please read the notes below and check with your instructor if you are in doubt as to the suitability of the trip. \nIMPORTANT: We will be based in Mid West Wales\, with the venue and price currently a work in progress.  Further updates once we have finalised details. \nI will once again be aided and abetted by my two Welsh Politburo co-conspirators Roger Manning and Hugh Curran. \nThe price has yet to be confirmed but we are working to keep it similar to past years circa £160 sharing\, to £200 single (dependant on room type) for three night’s bed\, breakfast and evening meal.  Please note that single rooms will likely be in short supply.  We shall be limiting Tour/Wizz numbers to a manageable maximum of 30 riders\, and if previous trips are anything to go by\, demand will greatly outstrip supply\, and spaces may have to be allocated as fairly as we can.  Pillions are very welcome. \nImportant:\nWhilst our Tours/Wizzes are open to all; we do have some safety criteria that you must meet.  So before you come forward and to avoid disappointment please read our Prepare for a Tour/Wizz and ensure you are comfortable with the advice and that you meet the criteria.\nIf in any doubt then discuss with your Instructor\, Roger or myself. \nIf you would like to reserve a place (to be confirmed once final details are known)\, or have questions\, please email me on timbenians@gmail.com.\nIn the first instance\, please let me know the dates you want to book for\, and your sharing/single room preference. \nThanks\, Tim \n

DESCRIPTION:On offer for your pleasure this month\, courtesy of one of our instructors – Paul Matchett; he is set to take us on a jolly across West Sussex and onto the delights of South and North Hampshire. \n\n\n\nRIDE DETAILS \nSunday September 29th.   Arrive in good time for a pre-ride brief around at 08:45 with a departure at 09:00.  Note we are finishing (at a different location) at approx 15:30\n\nMeeting Point Location:  Pease Pottage Services\, M23 J11\, Brighton Rd\, Crawley RH11 9YA. \nClosest Petrol Station:  At the start point. \nPre-Ride coffee/tea:  At the start point. \nLunch Stop:  The Flight Deck Cafe\, Lasham Airfield\,  Alton\, Hampshire\, GU34 5SS \nOutward Route:\nWe start our journey through the biking A & B roads of West Sussex\, heading towards Chichester and then on towards Havant\, where we’ll stop at Shell Services\, (Durrants Rd\, Rowlands Castle\, Havant PO9 6BB) for a quick coffee/comfort/fuel break. We then head northwest on a mixture of roads in the direction of Winchester\, turning north and running up through the Candovers and onto Lasham Airfield.
