Meet Up's & Activities

null

SMART is a very social group with lots of activities to join. These include UK and European trips, Machine Handling days, First Aid courses, Track and Off-Road days, Ride-Outs, Tours (Wizzes) and social evenings.

As well as Monthly Training meet-ups and associated activities (see below and the Calendar for details).

Meet ups are held monthly at two venues; in Kent at Mickeys Diner on the 1st Sunday of every month and in Sussex at Tulleys Farm on the 2nd Sunday of every month plus a Wednesday mid month, we meet up at 08:45 for 9.30 [one hour later for Wednesdays] at both venues all year round – rain or shine; but not snow, ice or severe storm (see our weather statement below).

You are welcome to turn up to these meets to get a feel for what we do. You can rely on getting a warm welcome at whichever venue you choose.

These are also the venues and dates that we typically undertake Assessment Rides for our new members.

For current dates and information please refer here. [members only]

In addition adhoc training meet-ups may occur on other days at these and other venues between associates and their instructors.

Personal Responsibility

It is your responsibility and yours alone to decide if you are okay to participate in any riding activity ie: well enough [refer to I AM SAFE in Roadcraft] and/or confident enough to manage any weather expected before you attend and ride on the given day or not.

Full details of our Members Responsibility and Weather statement are available here..

Note:  All members to carry their membership card on club activities.

Our Ride-Outs normally happen on the last Sunday of each month.

Typically, they are 150-250 miles in length and take most of the day and encompass a wide variety of interesting and challenging roads. On Ride-Outs, we aspire to making smooth, unobtrusive progress. We’re all dedicated motorcyclists and recognise that large numbers of bikes may be intimidating to other road users and also potentially dangerous to riders in the group. The leader will have spent a lot of time and effort planning the route and will brief everyone before setting out. Please listen to the briefing and follow any instructions carefully.

Apart from that, we aim just to have a lot of fun with challenging, interesting roads and excellent company!

Notes

  • For safety reasons, we can only accept rider members on our Ride-Outs and only those that have had their Initial Assessment Ride. Pillions are very welcome..
  • All members are asked to carry their membership card on all club activities.
  • Please study the Backmarker System that we use on all ride-outs and wizzes. It’s a tried and tested system that ensures riders can travel in their own space and at their own pace, well spread out from each other without loosing the group.
  • Refer to the Calendar for our next Ride-out – Click Here

Our Tours (Wizzes) are multi-day riding trips typically across continental Europe or around Wales, Isle of Man, Scotland etc.

They are inexpensive, great fun and a chance for motorcyclists to hone their skills and to experience fantastic roads and beautiful views. We book the hotels and plan the routes for you in advance, so all you need to do is bring your bike (and a pillion if you have one) and go! You can use these trips to either relax, polish up your riding, or just to get in some ‘saddle time’ among good company.

Tours are typically 4 or 5 days long and where possible, encompass a Bank Holiday Weekend. We are very familiar with Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Ardennes, Luxembourg, the Black Forest, Pyrenees and the Dolomites.

.

Note:

  • For safety reasons, in the case of Associate members [Associates are those without a current Advanced Riding test from RoSPA (Gold, Silver or Bronze) or an
IAM pass] wishing to attend these events; we restrict Tours (Wizzes) places to Associate members who have undertaken sufficient training (minimum of four sessions), are achieving consistent 3’s on their Training Cards and that their Instructor endorses their ability to attend the stated Tour (Wizz).
  • For more information on our Tours (Wizzes) refer to our Prepare for a Tour/Wizz.
  • Please study the Backmarker System that we use on all ride-outs and Tours (Wizzes). It’s a tried and tested system that ensures riders can travel in their own space and at their own pace, well spread out from each other without fear of loosing the group.
